As the weather gets a little cooler I start getting in the mood to bake. One of my favorite snacks to make for my kids are pretzel bites. They love them too and gobble them up so fast! Pretzel bites are the perfect finger food snack to serve after school or even during the big game this weekend.
These pretzel bites don't require any time waiting for the dough to rise and proof because they are made using pre-made refrigerated biscuit dough - you know the kind that comes in a tube at the grocery store.

My kids love to help me make these pretzel bites too. We have a little assembly line system so that everyone gets to help and has a specific job. It is always a fun time in the kitchen when we make pretzel bites.
In our house we eat our pretzel bites dipped in warm homemade cheese sauce. (Make sure to check out the cheese sauce recipe I love at the end of this post!) This is optional of course but highly recommended! Lightly salted pretzel bites fresh from the oven dipped in warm gooey cheese sauce are heavenly.

Quick & Easy Pretzel Bites Recipe
Ingredients:
1 Tube Pillsbury Grands biscuits (8 count)*
1 large egg, beaten
3 Tbsp water
* do not use crescent rolls as they do not work well in this recipe
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Bring a large pot filled halfway up with cold water to a boil on your stovetop. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or spray the baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray.
2. Remove the biscuits from the packaging then slice each biscuit into fourths. You should have 32 small pieces of dough. Roll each piece of dough into a ball.
3. Add the baking soda to the boiling water and stir. Carefully drop 4 - 5 balls of dough into the boiling water. After 5-8 seconds quickly remove the dough balls from the pot with a slotted spoon and place on the prepared baking sheet.
4. Make an egg wash by whisking together the egg with 3 Tbsp of water. Brush the tops of each pretzel bite with the egg wash. Sprinkle the coarse salt over the pretzel bites.
5. Bake the pretzel bites in the oven for 15 - 18 minutes. After baking immediately transfer the pretzel bites from the baking sheet to a platter and serve immediately.
Store any leftover pretzel bites in a sealed container for up to 3 days. To reheat any leftover pretzel bites put them on a plate and pop them into the microwave for 15-20 seconds before enjoying.
Pretzel Bites For Adults
These little bites don't have to be just "kids" food either! I think these little pretzel bites would be a great addition to a casual charcuterie board along with a variety of cheeses, fruits, and nuts. Pretzel bites could also be served as an appetizer with a cheese fondue too. The possibilities are endless.
Dipping Sauce Ideas
A little bit healthier option to dip these pretzel bites into instead of cheese sauce would be mustard. My kids aren't big fans yet of mustard but I just love dipping a soft pretzel like these pretzel bites into a good quality gourmet mustard. I'm drooling now just thinking about this delicious treat.
Simple Cheese Sauce Recipe
2 Tbsp butter
2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
1 cup milk
2 c. cheddar cheese
salt & pepper
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
In a medium size pot over medium-high heat melt the butter. Whisk in the flour and let cook for one minute.
Slowly stir in the milk bringing the mixture to a simmer. As the milk mixture begins to thicken start adding the cheese whisking continuously until the cheese sauce becomes smooth. Season with salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper.
