Orange + Chocolate = a Match Made in Heaven!

This combo of rich smooth chocolate with pops of sweet orange peel is decadent! No one would ever guess you whipped this fancy gourmet treat up in less than 30 minutes from your very own kitchen.

What You’ll Need

Ingredients:

  • 1 bag of pretzel rods (the long, sturdy kind)

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips or melting wafers

  • 1–2 teaspoons coconut oil or shortening - (optional - to help the chocolate melt smoothly)

  • Toppings - Holiday Fruit Sweetened Orange Peel (I prefer Paradise Fruit Co. brand)

Tools:

  • Microwave-safe bowls

  • Baking sheet

  • Parchment paper or wax paper

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prepare Your Workstation

Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper. Set out your pretzel rods, toppings, and decorations so everything is within easy reach.

2. Melt the Chocolate

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate in 20–30 second intervals, stirring between each round until smooth. Add a teaspoon of coconut oil to make the chocolate silky and easier to coat.

Tip: If you’re using two kinds of chocolate (like milk and white), melt them in separate bowls.

3. Dip the Pretzels

Hold each pretzel rod by one end and dip it into the melted chocolate. Use a spoon to help coat it evenly, covering about two-thirds of the pretzel. Gently tap off any excess chocolate. Place the chocolate-covered pretzel rods on a parchment covered baking sheet.

4. Decorate!

While the chocolate is still warm, sprinkle the sweetened orange peel bits pressing gently into the melted chocolate.

5. Let Them Set

Place the coated pretzels in the refrigerator for about 10–15 minutes or until the chocolate is firm.

6. Drizzle (Optional)

For an extra fancy look, melt some white chocolate and use a spoon or piping bag to drizzle it over the hardened pretzels. Let the drizzle set before serving or packaging.

Serving & Storage Tips

  • Gifting idea: Wrap a few pretzel rods in a clear cellophane bag, tie with a ribbon, and add a gift tag. Perfect for teacher gifts, party favors, or holiday baskets!

  • Serving idea: Stand the pretzels in a glass mason jar or spread them out on a platter. They will look amazing no matter how you serve them!

  • Storage: Keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week (if they last that long!).

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Quick and easy — ready in 30 minutes or less

  • Great for kids to help with

  • Perfect for holidays like Christmas, Valentine’s Day, or Halloween (just change up the toppings!)

  • Budget-friendly and beautiful

Final Tip: Once you make these once, you’ll find endless variations! Try caramel drizzle, crushed pretzels for double crunch, or themed sprinkles for every holiday.

So grab those pretzels, sweetened orange peel and chocolate—because your kitchen is about to smell amazing!

Looking for easy summer dessert recipes that don’t require you to fire up the oven on a hot summer day? No problem! These tasty treats are easy to make, whip up quickly, and will satisfy any sweet tooth, keeping you and your guests cool all summer long.

To me, summertime desserts should be light and refreshing, unlike the dense baked goods we crave in the fall. With an abundance of fresh seasonal fruits like strawberries, blueberries, watermelon, and peaches, your summer dessert recipes can be taken to the next level of deliciousness.

Some of my fondest summer memories are helping my children build their own custom s’mores while enjoying a bonfire. My oldest insists on smothering a thick layer of creamy peanut butter onto the graham crackers before adding a piece of dark chocolate and a warm, gooey marshmallow, while my youngest prefers his s’more plain and simple.

Whether you are gathered around an evening campfire assembling s'mores or digging into an ice cream sundae, summer desserts are sure to become some of your favorite memories. To help you stay cool this summer, I am sharing 10 of the best summer dessert recipes for you to try at your next cookout or party. Many of these dessert recipes are easy enough that your kids can help make them too.

10+ Summer Dessert Recipes To Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

Prepare these cool ice cream treats ahead of time and serve them right after dinner.

Ice Cream Desserts

  1. Cookies & Creme Frozen Pudding Pops

This kid-friendly dessert recipe is perfect for all ages. Simple pantry staples combine to make a cool summer treat.

Mix crushed Oreo cookies, thawed Cool Whip whipped topping, and chocolate pudding together until blended. Spoon the mixture into small paper cups and insert a wooden popsicle stick or plastic spoon into the center. Freeze at least 6 hours or until firm. Remove the paper cup before serving.

  1. Ice Cream Cake

This cake is a great alternative to the traditional birthday cake if you are hosting a summer birthday party.

Whisk together ½ cup fudge ice cream topping with 1 cup of cool whip and a package of chocolate-flavored instant pudding. Unwrap 4 ice cream sandwiches and place them side by side on a sheet of aluminum foil. Spread a layer of the chocolate pudding mixture. Repeat until you have three layers. Frost the top and sides with the remaining Cool Whip, then loosely cover with more aluminum foil. Freeze for 5 hours before serving.

  1. Chocolate Chip Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches

This recipe is a twist on the traditional ice cream sandwich. Keep a few extras in the freezer to serve to unexpected guests who pop in for a visit this summer.

Spoon 2 tablespoons of softened vanilla ice cream onto one chocolate chip cookie. Place a second cookie on top of the ice cream. Roll the edges in chopped peanuts. Place them in the freezer until hardened (1-2 hours).

  1. Orange Creamsicle Layered Dessert

A refreshing and creamy dessert guaranteed to become one of your favorites.  Be warned, you will want to make it again and again!

Line a loaf pan with aluminum foil. Spread 2 cups of softened orange sherbet into the bottom of the pan. Beat 8 ounces of softened cream cheese with 1 can of sweetened condensed milk and ½ cup orange juice together. Sir, in 8 ounces of Cool Whip topping. Pour over the sherbet in the pan and freeze for 4 hours. To serve, invert the pan onto a plate, remove the foil, and slice into pieces

No-Bake Desserts

Easy no-bake pies come together quickly and are the perfect summer dessert to share.

  1. Chocolate Mint Grasshopper Pie

The refreshing and classic cool mint flavor of this pie is hard for anyone to resist.

Mix 1 ½ cups milk with one package of pistachio flavor instant pudding & pie filling until well blended. Fold in 1 ½ cups of cool whip topping. Spoon into prepared chocolate cookie pie crust, then spread 1/2c cup of cool whip over it. Drizzle chocolate syrup over the top and freeze for 2 hours until firm.

  1. Strawberry Lemonade Cheesecake Pie

Lemonade and strawberries are two popular summer flavors, and when combined in this pie, they become a real sweet treat.

Beat 8 ounces of cream cheese with ½ cup thawed frozen lemonade concentrate. Whisk 2 cups of Cool Whip into the lemonade mixture. Spoon the lemonade mixture into a prepared graham cracker pie crust. Refrigerate for 4 hours until firm. Before serving, spread 1 cup of cool whip over the pie, then top with 1 ½ cups of fresh sliced strawberries.

Delicious Non-Traditional Summer Desserts

  1. Gourmet S’mores

Let’s crank this dessert up a notch from the classic graham cracker + chocolate + marshmallow to a more edgy gourmet version. Try a strawberry shortcake s’more by using sugar cookies + white chocolate + sliced fresh strawberries + marshmallow. These delicious gourmet s’more combinations are addicting!

  1. Pineapple Angel Lush Cake

Tropical and light, this dessert will satisfy your sweet tooth on a hot summer day.

Mix 1 package of dry vanilla instant pudding & pie filling with 1 can of crushed pineapple, undrained. Fold in 1 cup of cool whip topping. Cut a prepared round angel food cake horizontally into three layers. Place the bottom layer on a cake plate, then spread with one-third of the pineapple mixture. Repeat the layers two more times. Refrigerate for one hour. Before serving, top with fresh sliced strawberries and blueberries.

  1. Berry Cheesecake Parfaits

You worked hard to get your body swimsuit ready, but you still crave something sweet now and then. This dessert is a good compromise between healthy and sweet, so you can enjoy every bite.

Add 1 cup plain non-fat Greek yogurt, ¼ cup whipping cream, 2 teaspoons lemon zest, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 2 tablespoons sugar, and ½ teaspoon vanilla extract to the bowl of a stand mixer. Mix on medium speed until light and fluffy. Divide yogurt mixture evenly into 4 parfait glasses, top with fresh sliced fruit, and drizzle with honey.

  1. Fruit Granita

A traditional Italian dessert, with a texture similar to a snow cone, granitas are loaded with fruity summer flavors that are easy to make and will keep you cool and refreshed on a hot summer day.

For each of the flavored granitas below, add all of the ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth. Pour the mixture into a shallow baking pan, cover it with foil, and freeze for one hour. Scrape the mixture with a fork to make individual ice crystals and freeze for an additional 2 hours. Scrape the granita again, then break it up into chunks to serve.

Watermelon Granita:

  • 4 cups cubed watermelon chunks

  • ⅓ cup lime juice

  • ⅓ cup sugar

I love an easy-to-make dessert recipe that I know will be a big hit with my family. These cool whip frozen sandwiches won't disappoint! When I make them for my family I have to fend off the hungry children so these treats have some time to chill in the freezer before being devoured by my dessert-loving crew!

Besides the cool whip, the co-star in this treat is graham crackers. Did you know that graham crackers come in a variety of different flavors? Of course, everyone is familiar with the traditional honey graham cracker flavor, but did you know they come in cinnamon and chocolate too?

All three flavors are amazing and it is really hard to pick which one is my favorite. I highly recommend that you try these different flavors when you make these ice cream treats.

How To Customize Your Ice Cream Sandwich

Because these are homemade you can customize your cool whip ice cream sandwiches to fit your taste. Here are some great ideas to add to your dessert:

These extra toppings can either be folded into the cool whip or you can roll the edges of the sandwiches into the toppings too.

For this recipe and I made two different batches of these delicious treats with a slight variation to each to fit my family's taste. One batch contained the secret ingredient I'm about to share with you!

The Secret Ingredient Revealed

Recently, I had the pleasure of receiving a large box full of products from the Paradise Fruit Company to try. Paradise Fruit Company makes an assortment of ready-to-be-used sweetened real fruit. When you think of sweetened fruit you probably think about the traditional fruit cakes people make during the holidays but let me tell you there are way more uses for sweetened fruit than just fruit cake! With a huge variety to choose from like tropical pineapple, ginger, lemon peel, fruit cake mix, orange, cherry, and lime the recipe possibilities are endless.

This post was written in partnership with Paradise Fruit Co. I received Paradise Fruit Co. products free in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Make sure to check out my Ultimate Chocolate Cherry No-Bake Cookie recipe and my Cinnamon Orange Granola recipe to see how I used some of the other sweetened fruit products from Paradise Fruit Co.

For this ice cream sandwich recipe, the secret ingredient I used was the cherry pineapple sweetened fruit mix from Paradise Fruit Co.! After dicing the pieces extra small (per my own personal preference) I just sprinkled the fruit onto the cool whip before adding the top graham cracker.

To be honest my kids were pretty skeptical about this secret ingredient and so was I! But I remembered how well fruit and cool whip go together so I thought this had to be a delicious combination. And guess what? I was RIGHT! Everyone loved the cool whip frozen sandwiches with the secret ingredient best.

Decadent Chocolate Drizzle

Plain popcorn is actually a pretty healthy snack when you don't douse it in butter and salt but every now and then a little indulgence is ok. Gourmet chocolate popcorn combines the crunchy, flavorful goodness of salted popcorn with a sweet drizzle of chocolate. Speaking of chocolate, feel free to use semi-sweet, dark, white, or whatever kind of chocolate you have on hand to make this delicious recipe.

Gourmet Mix-Ins

You could stop after adding the chocolate but why do that when you looking to indulge a little! Here are some great mix-in ideas to give this gourmet popcorn that extra boost to make it even more amazing -

The Best Gourmet Chocolate Popcorn

What You Will Need:

8 cups popped popcorn
sea salt
1/2 cup each dark , semi-sweet, milk, and white chocolate
mix-ins
parchment paper
air-tight plastic container

How To Make:

1 - Make 8 cups popped popcorn lightly salted - or 2 bags microwave popcorn. Spread the popcorn out on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper.

2 - Sprinkle the mix-in toppings into the popcorn to distribute it evenly.

3 - Melt the chocolate in a double boiler or microwave safe bowl. If you are using several different kinds of chocolate melt it in different bowls.

4 - Drizzle the chocolate over the popcorn / mix-in mixture. Sprinkle a little sea salt all over the popcorn and chocolate. Allow the chocolate to completely cool. Using a big spatula gently flip the chocolate covered popcorn over then drizzle chocolate over it to coat this side too. Allow the chocolate to once again cool and harden.

5 - Break up the gourmet chocolate covered popcorn into small bite-sized chunks and ENJOY! If you have any leftover, which I seriously doubt, make sure to store the chocolate covered popcorn in an air-tight container.

Gourmet chocolate covered popcorn not only makes for a decadent dessert or snack but a great gift! Fill a clear celophane bag with it, add a ribbon and small card, then gift it to family and friends for birthdays, Christmas, or any other special occasion.
