I know all you mamma's out there would love a day of relaxation, reading your favorite book in a clean house after a good meal (not cooked by you). But this isn't the reality for most of us moms. There are no days off! Especially Mother's Day.

My husband is very capable of taking care of our family and making sure all the kids are fed, dressed and clean - and he does a good job, but he just isn't Mom.

"Mom" isn't just a name it is a badge of honor you earned over the years of caring for your dearest little treasures. Kissing boo-boo's, wiping snotty noses, hugging a hurting child or one who just needs a little TLC and whipping up a meal to feed your clan are all duties a mom willing and joyfully accepts.

Daily.

Momming isn't easy. Don't kid yourself, as your littles get less little the momming doesn't get easier, it gets harder, especially when teen hormones kick in. But you love them anyway because you are MOM.

So this Mother's Day let's spoil her rotten! Let's celebrate Mom! Shower her with gifts, do the dishes, make her a meal and give her a relaxing day. Or maybe just maybe let her use the bathroom for once in private - that ought to make her day. It sure would make mine!

I'm a dark chocolate kind of mom. Apparently the love of chocolate is a genetic trait that can be passed down from one generation to the next. How do I know this you ask? Well each one of my four kids, especially my oldest daughter, LOVES chocolate and would do practically anything to get it.

I'm serious folks - it has become a real problem around here. At least for me it is a problem because they are eating my chocolate!

I have to hide chocolate in my house. I don't mean just tuck it in the corner of a cabinet, that is child's play here and no longer a viable hiding place since they all caught onto this trick long ago. I've had to get really creative and stash bars in all sorts of weird places like the laundry room cupboards, slipped next to books on our bookshelf, under cans of canned goods in the pantry and even in my sock drawer.

How To Make Flower Seed Bombs - A Fun & Easy Craft

I wouldn't necessarily say I have a green thumb - I would describe it as mildly light green. Gardening is something I dream about doing well, but I've just come to embrace the fact that this isn't my gift. 

Not to say that I have given up - OH NO! I know there is room for improvement and I am determined to improve my gardening skills. There is something satisfying about growing your own veggies, picking them, and eating them fresh off the vine. It just tastes better! 

Maybe starting with veggies is a bit more than I can handle at this point, but flowers, I can do flowers! Especially wildflowers - hardy and simple right? (I hope). 

If you are new to gardening, growing flowers might be a great way to start. Flowers are so beautiful and can be easy to grow with the right tools.

Good soil is one of the most important tools you need to start gardening. Whether you are planting your flowers in pots or in a raised bed garden make sure you give your seeds a chance to become beautiful flowers by using good-quality soil. 

Seed Bombs

How To Make Wild Flower Seed Bombs

Maybe you and your kids have a little spring fever, but like us live in a place where winter is still lingering around? Now is a good time to have some fun with your kids and make seed bombs! Of course seed bombs can be made any time of year though so don't wait until next year! Follow along with the step-by-step tutorial below to make your own flower seed bombs. 

Supplies:

• 3-4 packages of various flower seeds
• bucket
• Recycled paper scraps such as newspaper, construction paper, and  tissue paper - the amount will vary depending on how many seed bombs you want to make so adjust accordingly (start with 4-6 sheets of scrap paper)
• Water
• Blender
• Strainer
• Molds or empty cupcake tins 
• Foodcoloring (optional)
• Sponge

Seed Bomb Instructions:

Step 1 - Tear the recycled paper scraps into small pieces until you have about 2 cups of paper pieces. You can make them colorful by using colored scraps of paper or a drop or two of food coloring. Put all of the scraps into your blender then add ¼ cup of water to the paper and 1-2 drops of food coloring. Pulse the paper and water together until the paper becomes a thick wet pulp, not a soupy mixture. If it is too soupy add more paper pieces – if it is too dry add more water. 

Step 2 - Pour the wet paper pulp into the strainer over a bowl to catch the extra water. Let it drain for a few minutes gently pressing out water with your hands. 

Step 3 - Next pour 1 packet of seeds into the pulp mixture and mix. With your hands scoop out the paper pulp and squeeze the extra water out. 

Step 4 - Add a scoop or two of the paper/seed pulp into the mold. Press the sponge onto the seed bombs in the mold to absorb extra water. Press out as much water as you can with the sponge so that the seeds are not encouraged to begin germination.  Set the mold out to dry. 

 

  Step 5 - Once the seed bomb is dry pop them out of the mold and store them in a dry dark place. If the seed bomb is kept dry the seeds will not germinate. 

They are now ready to be planted outside in spring weather or you can place them inside in a pot filled with potting soil and water regularly. 

Molds for Seed Bombs - More Great Ideas

You can use just about anything for a mold, we happened to use these silicone molds I had picked up from Amazon. Once the seed bombs were dry they easily popped out of the molds. 

If you don't have a mold you could spread the seed/paper pulp mixture onto an edged baking sheet and roll it into a thin layer. Again you need to squeeze out at much water as possible. This will create seed bomb paper! 

My kids mixed the packets of seeds together so we had NO idea what kinds of flowers would grow from our bombs. They had a blast guessing as the flowers began to grow. One of the seed packets contained flowers that grew super tall (can't remember the kind) and were fun to see grow.

Seed Bomb Gifts

Seed bombs make great gifts too! With Easter and Mother's Day in the spring you could put the seed bombs in a cute little package with instructions on how to grow them. If you opt to make seed bomb paper you could cut it into any shape you want, attach it to the outside of a blank card, add a little ribbon and now you have a homemade card with a gift included!
