Spring is finally here! And what do you think of when you think of Spring....flowers of course! As a way to help you get ready for Spring, I'm excited to share this super-easy flower craft. Colorful and bright yarn is the star of this craft project so make sure to pick out the colors you love the most when you make your own yarn-wrapped flowers!

This is a great craft for all ages, however, younger children will need your help, especially with a hot glue gun.  It is a perfect way to practice those fine motor skills, learn about colors or even have a short discussion about gardening and how to grow real flowers. For older kids, this would make a great craft to do at a sleepover or for a birthday party!

My kids and I along with some friends from our church made these easy yarn-wrapped flowers as a group project during Spring break. The plan is to make enough for the residents of a nearby assisted living facility to give as an Easter gift. 

This particular assisted living facility has a special place in my family's heart since it is where my husband's grandpa lived and was well taken care of during the end of his life. He has since passed away and this is our way to remember him while trying to lift the spirits of those who live there now.

Easy Yarn-Wrapped Flower Craft Tutorial

Are you ready to have some fun and get started making these cute yarn-wrapped flowers? Here are the supplies you will need to make this craft project:

Craft Supplies:

• Variety of colorful yarn
• Bright colored cardstock
• Green colored cardstock
• Wooden craft sticks 
• Small terra-cotta pot
• Pom pom balls
• Hot glue gun & glue sticks
• Green floral foam  
• Printable label (optional) 
• Scissors
• Brown crinkle-cut decorative paper shreds

Step-by-Step Tutorial - How to Make Yarn-Wrapped Flowers

1 - From the colorful cardstock cut out a 3-inch circle for the flower head.

2 - Cut a piece of colorful yarn approximately 36+ inches long. 

3 - Squirt a little dab of hot glue in the center of the paper circle then wrap the yarn all around the paper circle. Feel free to add additional colors of yarn, hot gluing the new color to the back of the paper circle and wrapping it in layers over the first color. Secure the end of the yarn to the back with more hot glue. 

4 - Pick out a colorful pom-pom ball and glue it to the center of the yarn-covered flower.

5 - Add a dab of hot glue to the top edge of a wooden craft stick then secure it to the back of the yarn-covered circle to make the flower stem.

6 - Cut out leaf shapes from the green cardstock. Hot glue the leaf to the wooden craft stick stem just under the circle flower. 

7 - With a sharp knife (adult supervision highly recommended) cut the green foam into a square cube just big enough to press into the terra cotta flower pot. Make sure to wedge it in really well so it doesn't fall out when you are finished.

8 - Firmly press the wooden craft stick stem into the green foam inside the pot. You might want to add a little hot glue to the bottom of the wooden craft stick so it can't be pulled out. 

9 - Spread the brown crinkle cut strips of paper around the inside of the flower pot hot gluing them down over the green foam.

For years we have hosted a big Easter dinner at our house after church with our friends and family. Since we have a blended group of people I always try to make sure the meal is something appealing to everyone including the kids. Of course, everyone helps by bringing a dish to pass but my job is preparing the main dish.  

Ham is the most popular main dish served on Easter and since my family loves spiral ham I always make sure that this is one of the main dishes served at our Easter feast. But not everyone loves ham so over the years I've done a lot of prep work looking for good alternatives to serve for Easter dinner alongside the ham. 

Since I've done the homework already I thought today I would share with you some great recipes I've made for Easter dinner. 5 Easter Dinner Ideas That Will Please A Crowd

Traditional Roasted Turkey

Now don't get scared by this one if you have never roasted a turkey before. This recipe by Neighbor Food Blog is super simple and the turkey turns out so moist and flavorful. I actually just made this recipe over the weekend to test it out and I have to say the recipe was easy to follow, simple to make and the turkey turned out perfectly. I would give it a 5-star rating it was that good! 

I baked this in my roasting pan and followed the directions exactly as the recipe was written. My whole family loved it just as much as I! 

One tip Courtney from Neighbor Food Blog recommends and I agree with is using a real meat thermometer and not relying on the little plastic one the bird comes with. Meat thermometers are an excellent kitchen tool that aren't too expensive and I highly recommend everyone should have one in their kitchen. 

Ginger-Honey Roasted Pork Tenderloin

This recipe can either be made in the crockpot or roasted in the oven. I've tried both ways and they both result in a deliciously flavorful meal. Roasting in the oven always gives pork tenderloin a crispy blackened outside layer which I love! The Chunky Chef's recipe has a wonderful flavor and easy-to-follow recipe directions. 

For those new to roasting pork tenderloin please keep in mind that the pork is done when the internal temperature reaches 140-145 degrees Fahrenheit. Since this is pork (and not chicken) when you slice into it the meat will have a pinkish hue which is how it should look. Just rely on the internal temperature from the meat thermometer to know when your pork tenderloin is ready. 

Maple Orange Bourbon Glazed Ham

Are you ready? Because this ham recipe from Food Network is going to knock your socks off! The sweet maple and orange mingle nicely with bourbon flavor to send this ham's flavor through the roof. If you don't have orange marmalade you can substitute apricot preserves without much change to the flavor. Also, if you aren't a fan of maple flavor go ahead and use honey instead. Cooking time for the recipe is spot on which makes it handy when trying to plan a big Easter feast. 

If you haven't guessed already this is my family's favorite ham recipe. It is requested every year and of course, because I love my family so much I comply and make this delicious ham recipe every Easter.

Citrus & Herb Roasted Chicken

Chicken is an inexpensive budget-friendly alternative to a traditional turkey dinner. Since whole chickens are usually smaller than a full turkey they cook up a lot faster too. This recipe from Punchbowl compliments the chicken's flavor with herbs and citrus. It is truly a wonderful main dish to serve for Easter and it looks great with sliced lemons and oranges arranged on a serving platter too.

Since this is a crockpot recipe you won't tie up your stove all day making it so go ahead and add another oven-baked side dish to your menu too.

Big Collection of Adorable Easter Baskets

Tradition was a big deal in my family growing up, especially holiday traditions. Easter was no exception!

Being the oldest child in my family, my mom gave me her wooden Easter basket she used as a child. I'm not a very sentimental person but this basket is just precious to me! It even has her name written on the bottom of the basket in crayon - something I'm sure she did to make sure her other 5 siblings knew whose basket this belonged to!

The basket has a solid wood bottom with rows of weaved basket fibers in tan and dark purple around it. The handles are wooden and attached with bent nails to the basket frame (I'm sure this is a "fix" my grandpa made to the basket years ago!)

I used this basket every year and my parents had a tradition of hiding our baskets somewhere in the house for us kids to find on Easter morning. They kept up this tradition well into my college years!

Now that I have my own kids we have tweaked our Easter tradition but we still love including the baskets in our celebration. Instead of hiding their baskets I hide plastic eggs throughout our house - in Michigan you can never be to sure if the weather will allow for an outside Easter egg hunt.

Each hidden egg has a Bible verse reference inside. Once all the eggs are found we gather together as a family and the kids begin looking up each verse in their Bible and reading it out loud.

Once we are done reading I fill their baskets with candy and small gifts to remind them of the gift Jesus gave to us by dying on the cross to pay for our sin and His resurrection. I love this tradition and so do my kids!

Father,

Thank you for sending your Son, Jesus to die on the cross and bear the burden for our sins. Thank you that He rose from the grave and conquered death. And thank you that through Him alone we are able to come to you washed clean by His blood. 

I pray that all would put their trust in Jesus who offers everyone this free gift - the gift of salvation.We all fall short, we all have sinned and we all need to be saved from eternal separation from God. 

Thank you that every Easter we are reminded of this wonderful gift and that the sting of death is gone forever for those who have put their trust in Jesus.

1 - Pineapple Honey Glazed Ham

This is a simple recipe for a glaze that you spread on the ham during the last 20 minutes of baking. I love that it is easy and uses ingredients you already have on hand. And doesn't it just look so YUMMY!

2 - Apple Cider Maple Glazed Ham

Real maple syrup is the secret of this recipe. This recipe suggests brushing the glaze over the ham before you start baking it, wrap it tightly in foil and then bake until the ham reaches the internal temp of 110 degrees F. 

Just before it is done baking uncover the ham brush another layer of glaze on and crank up the heat so that the glaze caramelizes in the higher temp. Looks amazing!

I love using my crockpot - especially when I am preparing a big meal for a dinner party. Not only does it free up space in my oven for other things to cook but it makes for some juicy, flavorful ham! After 6 hours in the crockpot this ham is ready to be served.

This recipe is for a bone-in ham NOT spiral sliced ham. Using this for a spiral sliced ham will result in dried out ham and a ruined dinner! But it is an amazing way to prepare a bone-in whole ham. I've make Coke roasts before and they were wonderful so I'm sure using it for a ham glaze will give the same results. 

Next thing to think about is what to do with the leftovers (if there are any)! Don't throw away the ham bone - it makes such a wonderful base for broth that you can use in soups like split pea or bean soup. I even freeze the bone and pull it out later to cook for a few hours just because the broth is so dang good!

The Power of Chocolate...A Love Story

Once upon a time a little girl was given a beautiful chocolate bunny in her Easter basket. It was covered in shiny gold foil with painted eyes, whiskers and other whimsical details. It was a treasure of all treasures! 

The little girl, wanting to savor her treat made a plan as to how she would go about consuming the chocolate bunny. A nibble to the ears one day, then the feet the next and onto the tail were part of her well thought out plan. 

Carefully she unwrapped the foil from the ears revealing the smooth shaped chocolate. Sinking her teeth into the top she nibbled away until they were all gone. 

Wrapping the foil over the exposed chocolate bunny head, she placed the uneaten portion into the refrigerator saving it for her after school treat. Off to school she bounded wiping chocolate from the corners of her mouth.

Little did the girl know that this chocolate bunny would cause her mother such irresistible temptation. While left alone at home with only a baby to care for, the mother, smelling the faint chocolate aroma wafting through the kitchen after her daughter's early morning treat, was in a state of utter despair! Her resolve, quickly waning, left her completely as she pulled open the refrigerator door, unwrapped the chocolate bunny and took her first satisfying nibble of the cold, smooth, sweet chocolate. It was decadent. 

Resolving to nibble no more, the mother re-wrapped the chocolate bunny placed it back in the refrigerator and set about caring for the baby. 

However, the temptation to take another small bite returned and she found herself once again enjoying another bite of the chocolate bunny. This routine continued throughout the day until the time came for the little girl to come home from school.  

Leaping off the steps of the bus the little girl skipped happily to her house, opened the door and headed straight to the kitchen where she opened the refrigerator door to get her chocolate bunny. Looking around the shelves for her shiny foil covered bunny the little girl could not find what she was searching for. Tucked away in the back, behind the milk was a small lump of foil covering a chunk of chocolate that appeared to be the feet of what was once a bunny. Snatching up the lump of foil and chocolate the girl raced to find her mother and ask what had happened. 

The mother looked sadly at her daughter and confessed that she had in fact eaten the chocolate bunny. Her sad countenance and repentant heart moved the little girl to forgive her mother and offer the remaining lump of feet to her to eat. The little girl crawled up into her mother's lap and the two of them shared the last of the chocolate bunny together. 

The End.

The events of this story are based upon a real life event. 

The names of the characters have been changed to protect those involved, mainly the mother!

Moral of the story - Forgiveness is powerful but HIDE YOUR CHOCOLATE!

Our Easter tradition has changed over the years to include a celebration with friends rather than an extended family party. A couple of years ago some close friends invited us over to their house after our Easter church service to have dinner - it was a blast!

Fast forward a few years and this Easter the friend celebration continues. We've added a few more friends and have changed locations a few times but the good food, friendship and fun has remained the same.

Our kids love it too -especially since the families we invite have kids their ages and the day is filled with friends and playing. This year is no exception. We have invited five families over this year to enjoy a good meal, spend time building relationships and playing hard (praying the weather is nice!!). Did I mention that this group consists of 16 (yep) kids!!! So of course I hope the weather is sunny so they can play outside.

With one week to go before the party I'm working on planning some of the details like the table scape, menu and kids games. Today though I wanted to share with you the amazing table scape ideas I've gathered. There are just so many beautiful ways you can decorate for spring and Easter! 10 Easter Egg Decorating Ideas To Do With Kids

For as many years as I can remember my family and I have colored Easter eggs. 

My parents continued this tradition with my kids as soon as the little ones could sit up on their own. I remember my oldest holding onto the cold hard boiled egg and then dropping it into a cup of color  - she was instantly hooked and wanted more.

My mom always boiled 3-4 dozen eggs, brought them over with the egg dye and set up shop at the kitchen table. Thank goodness the eggs were hard boiled - the kids could hardly contain themselves and would DROP the eggs into the bowls or cups of dye, cracking the shells as they hit the bottom.

The eggs were always colorful inside & out!

Since my parents enjoy doing this with the kids I've used this time to sneak out (kid free) for some grocery shopping or an hour all to myself. 

This year however my parents will be out of the country on a vacation so the egg decorating baton has been passed to me.

I've been working hard to come up with a fun and unique way to decorate eggs with the kids and boy are there a lot of great ideas floating around cyber world (a.k.a Pinterest).
