Organize Your Life With A Daily Planner

I used to just jot down my to-do list on a piece of scrap paper and leave it on my kitchen countertop only to find it missing or thrown away by lunch time. How frustrating! 

Since I started using this daily planner printable I have to say that it hasn't gone missing or gotten thrown away yet! Woo-hoo!! I think my family has caught on that this is mommy's list and nobody dares to toss it out absentmindedly! 

Because this daily planner has helped me keep my task list and goals organized, I find that I get more accomplished during the day than I was doing before I started using it. Plus I just love the decorative border and the fact that I can print out a new planner page each day.  

Each morning before I start my day I sit down at the computer, print off a the daily planner and jot down the tasks I must do that day as well as any goals or notes I want to remember.

Since my list and notes are written on the daily planner everyone in my household can actually read it too and it doesn't get tossed out!

Are you a history buff who loves to visit historical sites or maybe you prefer visiting museums when you go on vacation? Why not do both? Many museums, zoos and historical places now offer free virtual tours that you can visit from the comfort of your own home. 

To make your virtual vacation seem more like a vacation why not go BIG and use a projector to watch a tour of your vacation destination. No longer are projectors those big clunky machines found in a classroom. Today's projectors are small, sleek and affordable making it easy to use anywhere you need to project a movie or picture.

BACKYARD CAMPING    

If you can find a campground that is open this summer chances are they are booked solid throughout the summer. No problem, how about camping in your own backyard under the stars. No need for fancy camping supplies since your home kitchen and bathroom are just a few feet away. A tent, some sleeping bags and a flashlight can make your at home camping adventure memorable. 

Don't forget the campfire! Campfires are always a highlight to any camping trip. If you don't have a built in bonfire pit why not get a portable one. There are so many to choose from, I'm sure you will find one your family can use and enjoy for years to come. 

If a portable fire pit is not in your budget this year why not make your own table top mini campfire.  Here are two great tutorials you can follow to make your own with just a few simple and inexpensive supplies:

Option #1 - Charcoal Tabletop Campfire

• Terra Cotta pot & drainage plate
• A few bricks of charcoal, 
• Lighter fluid 
• A lighter 
• Aluminum foil (I prefer heavy duty) 

Slice off a piece of aluminum foil large enough to cover the inside of the Terra Cotta pot. If you need to use more than one piece go ahead, just make sure the entire inside of the pot is lined with foil. I prefer to use the heavy duty aluminum foil. Next place several bricks of charcoal inside the pot filling it to the top but not enough so any can fall out. I recommend placing your pot on top of the drainage plate to prevent the pot from scorching your table top. Squirt a little bit of lighter fluid on the charcoal then light them with the lighter. 

Grab your marshmallow sticks, marshmallows, and s'more fixings and start toasting! 

Be Careful! This small table top campfire will be hot. Please supervise your children at all times. Once you are done using the campfire make sure to fully extinguish the coals.The pot will be hot so do not touch it until it is completely cool.

Option #2 - Sterno & Terra Cotta Pot Tabletop Campfire

• Terra Cotta Pot & drainage plate
• 1 can of sterno
• Small rocks
• Lighter

This second option for building a tabletop campfire uses a slightly different heat source than the first option. You know those small cans of sterno that you see under a platter that a caterer uses to keep food warm? That is what this option uses as the campfire!

To build your campfire place the Terra Cotta pot on top of the drainage plate then place a layer of small stones in the bottom of the pot. Next place the can of sterno on top of the rock layer. You will want the opening of the sterno container to be level with the edge of the pot so you may need to add a few more rocks. Fill in the space between the sterno can and the pot with additional small stones. This layer of stones will help keep the sterno can from being wobbly. 

When you are ready for your table top campfire just unscrew the lid of the sterno, use your lighter to ignite the sterno and start enjoying a fire roasted marshmallow! After you have stuffed yourself silly with marshmallows and s'mores place the lid over the sterno can to extinguish the fire. Again, remember this sterno can may be hot so please let it cool completely before touching it. 

AT HOME LUAU VACATION

Did the dream vacation you wanted to take to a tropical island change due to the increased cost to fly? Don't let this change of plans wreck your tropical island experience instead, why not create a tropical island of your very own right at home? 

With the help of Pinterest you can get some great ideas to help you create a tropical oasis right in your own back yard. Check out and follow the Pins on my PARTY Luau board to get you started! 

Here are some supplies you need to get your at home Luau Vacation started:

Tiki torches

Pool noodles 

Medium size cardboard boxes (empty Amazon boxes work well)

Brown butcher paper (or paper grocery bags)

Colorful sheets of tissue paper

Leis

Bags of play sand

Beach chairs

Beach balls

Make a beach in your yard with a few bags of play sand. If you have a sandbox you can use this as the beach but if you don't, find a spot in your yard that you don't mind covering in sand and empty a few bags of play sand there. Place beach chairs, tiki torches and even a banner of beach balls around your new beach! 

Every tropical island needs palm trees. To make some for your backyard luau cut a hole the same diameter as a pool noodle. Insert the pool noodle into the hole then cover the pool noodle with brown craft paper, bunching it up to make it look like palm tree bark. Use the colorful tissue paper to make the tree foliage and don't forget to make a few coconuts with balled up brown craft paper or tissue paper.

Dala Horse Paper Craft For Kids

Are you and your kids feeling cooped up or a little stir crazy this winter? Crafting is a great way to pass the time during a long cold winter and will help keep the winter "blahs" at bay.

The key to engaging your children in some winter craft time is to get creative and offer them projects that they have never done before - bonus if the craft is educational! I love finding projects that are multi-age friendly and can be tied in with our school subject studies.

My youngest received a monthly subscription box from Raddish Kids recently that fit perfectly with our history lessons. The kit focused on the food of Sweden and included a great craft project the Swedes are known for, the Dala horses.

The Dala horse originated long ago as a way to pass the time during long cold fall and winters in Sweden. These small tailless wooden horses, carved and decorated by hand were created from leftover scraps of wood from building furniture. The carvers of these bright, happy little animals would give them as gifts to their children.

Since we are smack-dab in the middle of a dreary, dark winter season I thought these little horses would be the perfect way to add a little brightness and color to our home! This project also met my two requirements - it is multi-age and educational.

We started the project with a quick geography lesson. I had my younger children find Sweden on our big world map as well as Stockholm, the capital too. My older children spent a few minutes "Googling" Dala horse and read a little bit of the history to the younger children. We also looked at some pictures online of real wooden Dala horses so we had some idea as to the colors used to decorate them. When we were done with the geography and history lesson it was time to bust out the art supplies.

In the monthly Raddish kids kit there was a template for us to use on heavy cardstock of a Dala horse. I made some copies with our printer on cardstock so each child had their own and we got started coloring them. The free printable template for this Dala horse can be found on Raddishkids.com under the "Bonus Bites" section.  (Thank you Raddishkids!)

This is a very simple craft project that takes minimal supplies and time. Your children could use paint, markers or colored pencils to color their Dala horses. Once the horse template is colored it just needs to be cut out, folded and a little dab of glue or tape applied to the horses head to attach it to the body and you are all done!

These little guys are so cheerful and bright aren't they! I'd love to see how yours turned out.

8. Vacation Attitude

Remember this is a vacation so make sure your attitude is set to vacation mode! As a parent it is easy to reply to a quick email from work or return a phone call to your boss, but remember you wouldn't be doing this if you were out of state lying on the beach somewhere would you? So don't do it on your staycation either! Commit to a vacation and to relaxing and truly unplug from the daily grind. Your family will thank you!

I remember the first time my kids got their own bath bomb. A small box from an out of state aunt and uncle arrived a few days post Christmas and they were so excited to open this belated gift. They tore it open and stood looking confused at the big colorful set of 4 bath bombs. At the time they didn't know what they were so I had to explain that they made your bath all fizzy and scented as they dissolved in the water.

Of course the kids insisted that they needed baths at that exact moment so we ran up to the bathroom and filled the tub! They were pretty little at the time and we often called the bath our pool so they all threw on their swim suits and jumped into the tub together. Needless to say the bath bombs were a BIG hit! The kids loved holding the bath bombs just under the water to feel them bubble and dissolve. The bathroom smelled AMAZING too! The biggest surprise for all of us was the little toy hidden inside each bath bomb! Since then my children have all loved bath bombs and love getting and giving them as gifts!

Ready to make your own bath bombs to give as gifts this year? Gather the following ingredients and follow the step by step instructions below!

Easy DIY Bath Bomb Tutorial

Supplies Needed:

• Large or Medium Size Stainless steel bowls or glass bowls
• Gloves
• Stainless steel bath bomb mold - you can also use muffin tins, melon ball scooper, plastic Easter egg, silicon mold or candy molds, ect. (be creative)
• Squirt bottle / spray bottle
• Non-stick spray

Dry Ingredients

• 1 cup Baking Soda
• 1/2 cup Citric Acid
• 1/2 cup Epsom Salt
• 1/2 cup Cornstarch
• 2 1/2 Tbsp Coconut Oil
• 3/4 Tbsp Water
• 12-15 drops Essential Oils (follow recipe below)
• 3-4 drops Natural Food Coloring or Cosmetic Grade Colorant (optional)

Mix The Dry Ingredients
In a large stainless steel or glass bowl, mix all of the dry ingredients together. If you are going to make multi colored bath bombs, divide the dry mix into two or three separate bowls and add different color pigment to each bowl (this step is optional).

Mix The Wet Ingredients
Melt the coconut oil in a small microwavable bowl or over a double boiler. In another stainless steel or glass bowl mix the wet ingredients together including the melted coconut oil, water and essential oils. (For custom flavor scents see the recipe options below)

Combine Wet & Dry Ingredients
Start by SLOWLY adding the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Mix all the ingredients together until they are the consistency of wet sand and won't crumble. Depending on the climate where you live you may want to use the spray bottle to spray the water over the mixture evenly. The amount of water may vary slightly depending on the humidity of your area.

Shape & Mold The Bath Bombs
Lightly spray the non-stick spray on the inside of whatever molds you are using to ensure the bath bombs don't stick to the mold. Fill each mold completely packing the mixture in until the mold you are using is slightly overflowing. 

If you are making a multi colored bath bomb you will want to fill the mold with the desired colors and continue packing the ingredients into the mold until it is completely full. If using the ball shaped molds fill each half them press the halves together firmly. 

Allow the mold to sit for 2 minutes then gently tap the mold and slowly pull the halves apart to remove the bath bomb. The bombs will be fragile so be careful when separating the halves! 

Set your bath bombs somewhere where they will be left alone to dry for 24-48 hours. 

Packaging Your Bath Bombs

The game is simple to play and all you need is a bag of M & M's and the Gratitude Game printable. The person then follows the prompts on the printable to say what or who they are thankful for.
